Neem/Indian lilac

Azadirachta indica

A hardy evergreen tree growing up to 15m (48ft) in height. The bright green leaves are toothed and opposites. Deep rooted and fast growing. Flowers white-yellow and the fruit is single seeded.

Neem derives its meaning from the sanskrit Nimba, ‘bestower of good heath’, and has been called India’s best kept secret. Used over centuries to treat more than 100 ailments. Planting three or more trees during one’s lifetime assured a direct ticket to heaven.

Leaves, flower, seed oil and bark.

Constituents (bio available chemicals):

Mehacins, liminoids, triterpenes, bitters, sterols, tannins and flavonoids.

Nutritional constituents:

Crude protein. Minerals: calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, copper and iron.


Asthma, eczema, diabetes, rheumatism, haemorrhoids, malaria, stomach ulcers, intestinal worms. Topically: wounds, boils, eczema and leprosy.


0.5-1ml (1:2): 3 x daily.
