Using your microbes
Bokashi: Add a handful of Bokashi to kitchen waste whenever you top it up. When you empty it outside onto compost or bury it in soil, add an extra handful of Bokashi. Fermented food waste produces nutrient dense compost. Dilute liquid runoff 1:100 with water and apply sparingly to indoor and outdoor plants.
Compost Activator: Spray 1 litre mixed with 2 litres of water per m3 of compost. To maintain fast and effective composting, spray weekly thereafter with a weaker dilution 1:6. Unchlorinated water works best – allow tap water to stand for 30 minutes to dechlorinate. Do not apply in direct sunlight.
Soil Conditioner: Dilute 1:10 (100ml Soil Conditioner mixed with 1 litre of water) and apply liberally 4-6 times per year, either in a watering can or sprayer. Unchlorinated water works best – allow tap water to stand for 30 minutes to dechlorinate. Do not apply in direct sunlight: early morning or evening works well; immediately before or after rain is ideal as microbes thrive with water. No time limit before sowing, planting or harvesting crops.
Plant Boost: For best results, water or spray plants weekly. In case of fungal infection spray thoroughly every day. Apply to shoots and young plants in an extremely diluted form (min 1:200). In regular use dilute 1:100 (for 100ml of Plant Boost use 10 litres of water) when watering. Unchlorinated water works best – allow tap water to stand for 30 minutes to dechlorinate. Do not apply in direct sunlight: morning or evening works well, and even better is immediately before or after rain since microbes thrive in water.
Plant Protector: For general pest prevention, dilute 1:50 in water. Spray onto leaf surfaces 2-3 times per week in the morning or evening out of direct sunlight. In case of infestation, increase concentration of Plant Protector to between 1:20 – 1:10 in water and spray more frequently.
Caring for your microbes
Chemical-free Garden Toolbox
Get everything you need for your garden from kitchen waste bucket to rose bloom with our complete chemical-free gardening toolkit. Five products that will work together to accelerate the fermentation of compost, boost soil and plant health, and keep bugs away.
You can’t see the invisible microbiome in your garden, and so it’s not easy to believe that it’s there, but you can see the effects of killing it off: poor soil structure, diseased plants, poor water retention, fewer insects, less wildlife, and an influx of pests.
Adding effective microorganisms to your gardening at every stage will help to rebuild good soil and plant health and bring life – visible and invisible – back to your garden.
