Description

A jelly like substance, usually a pale yellow / orange with tones of gray in colour and found in bundles of thin membranous acgutinated strips. It is a dried hydrophilic colloidal substance.

Peppermint

Description

A perennial herb growing to approximately 50cm (1ft 8in) in height with quadrangular stems. Leaves are dark green, slightly paler on the underside, ovate – lanceolate in shape and opposites. The flowers are pinkish/mauve in colour, tubular with four lobes. It rarely produces seeds and is a hybrid species from Mentha spicata and Mentha aquatica.

Actions

Carminative, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, aromatic, diaphoretic, anti-emetic, nervine, anti-microbial and analgesic.

Slippery Elm

Descriptions

A medium sized tree growing to 20m (65ft) in height. The branches range in colour from red through to orange and brown, growing in a downward direction. The clusters of dense, stalkless flowers are predominantly red in colour. The bark has a slight but distinct odour. The bast or inner bark is traditionally sold in flat pieces 2-3 ft (60cm-1m) in length.

Turmeric

Description

Distinguished by its oblong tubers, turmeric is an erect tropical, perennial plant. The leaves are large and petioled that taper at each end. The dull, yellowish flowers radiate from the stem encased in the petioled leaf. It is a sterile plant (does not produce seeds), but grows from the rhizomes, which consist of two parts. The fragrance is notable, bitter with mildly acrid taste.
