Triggering digestion

Unlike freeze-dried capsules, our range of Bio-Live cultures are alive. During the freeze-drying process microbes in capsules hibernate. When digested, these capsules are recognised as food and trigger stomach acid which attack the microbes. Those that survive need to be rehydrated in order to be re-activated. But by the time they have been re-activated most have passed through the digestive system and have missed their chance to do their job.

Food and dairy products that contain beneficial microbes also trigger digestion when they pass through the stomach. This means that when the stomach releases acid to break down food many microbes are killed.

Bio-Live is brewed to the same acidity as the stomach, so the beneficial microbes reach the gut alive. Bio-Live is also a water-based probiotic which means that it isn’t recognised as food and doesn’t trigger digestion when it passes through the stomach.

Antioxidants

Free radicals are unstable molecules in our environment that can damage the cells in our bodies. This process is known as oxidation, where part of an unstable molecule attaches itself to one of the body’s cells. Oxidation makes us age, it converts healthy cells into cancerous ones, elevates blood pressure, hardens arteries, promotes inflammation and can cause infertility.

The environment we live in exacerbates oxidation through pollution and the increased use of chemical cleaning agents in the home.

Antioxidants keep us healthy by delaying or preventing free radicals from attaching to cells. Antioxidants are found in a variety of foods – and are abundant in Bio-Live – bringing health benefits by neutralising free radicals and protecting cells.

The magic of fermentation

During the process microbes (like bacteria, yeast or fungi) convert organic matter into alcohol or acids.
