Family nature workshops

Who wants to learn more about microbes?

We join forces with Dig & Delve to bring nature workshops for all the family to Spirthill near Calne, North Wiltshire.

Microbes are microscopic bacteria that inhabit our environments, bodies, water, soil, trees and the air we breathe. Microbes are integral to life but sadly modern living damages our natural microbiome. In our outdoor workshops we will explain the important role that microbes play in keeping you and your planet safe.

Rowan Wynne-Jones from Dig & Delve will lead us through a fun two hours of exploration and education in our Spirthill woods and farmland where you will engage with nature and learn more about our bacterial friends. Each session is from 10-12am and is split between outdoor exploring and natural crafts (which you get to take home). We close with storytelling and colouring in and provide tea, coffee and squash at the end.

Dig & Delve is based in the Cotswolds and runs outdoor workshops for clubs, home schooling and parties. Rowan comes from a gardening and permaculture heritage and is the daughter of Davina Wynne-Jones, founder of Herbs for Healing and the granddaughter of Rosemary Verey who created the beautiful, renowned gardens in Barnsley near Cirencester.

Passionate about all things outdoors, Rowan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with her and teamed with our Microbes expert Sue Allen (co-founder of Microbz) you are guaranteed to have a fun and educational time.

What’s coming up…..

July 25th: Exploring different habitats and building our own dens.  Where do animals live?  We will see if we can identify different creatures that live in trees, grasses and ponds at Spirthill.  Then we can try and make our own dens – some might be small enough for a mouse, others big enough for a human.
September 26th: Making and painting with natural paints and dyes. We’ll be making paints and inks from berries and other things found in nature to paint a picture, and tye-dye a tote bag using natural dyes, plus we will go on a foraging walk, looking for blackberries.
October 24th: Exploring the Four Elements – Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Join us for an enjoyable morning, playing with clay, making mini-kites, cooking over a fire, and pond-dipping.
November 21st: A bug’s eye view of the world.  Using our imagination, we will shrink to the size of an insect.  Using a range of hand tools, we will create magical little worlds for you to take home and enjoy.

£15 for 1 child and 1 adult
£25 for 2 children and up to 1 adult
£30 for 3 children and up to 1 adult

The session is aimed at 4-8 years old (KS1). Tickets are chargeable from age 3.
The charge for an extra accompanying adult is £5.
Sessions will go ahead in all weathers except thunder and lightning and torrential rain. If the event is cancelled, you will be informed with at least 2 hours notice.
